How we rate CCTV installers in Sydney
We rate installers on six things: years operating, current licensing, whether the person who quotes the job actually does it, warranty terms, the range of brands and services on offer, and a verified Google rating where one exists. No installer pays to be ranked higher, and we never invent a figure - if we can't verify something through a primary source, we either leave it out or say plainly that it's the business's own claim.
The criteria and how they're weighted
Licensing carries the most weight in our assessment. In NSW, a business installing CCTV generally needs a Security Master Licence under the Security Industry Act 1997, and the person doing the physical install often needs a Security Operator Licence. We treat this as close to a pass or fail check - an installer without a current, verifiable licence sits below one that has it, regardless of other strengths.
Years operating and whether work is subcontracted come next. A business with a long track record in a specific area tends to know that area's housing stock, strata by-laws and connectivity quirks (NBN, Starlink) better than a business that's newer or spread thinly across all of Sydney. Whether the person who quotes a job is the person who installs it also matters, because it affects how well the finished work matches what was promised at the quote.
Warranty terms and the breadth of services offered - whether an installer also handles alarms, access control, intercoms, WiFi or home theatre - come after that, since a wider offering can mean better integration between your cameras and everything else running on your network.
Finally, we weigh a verified Google rating and review count where one is available. We only quote a rating and review figure we've checked directly on Google Maps; where a business states its own review count on its own website instead, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as verified.
How we verify licences
Where an installer publishes a NSW Security Master Licence number, electrical contractor licence number or Security Operator Licence number, we check it against the NSW Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) public register where that number is published there. If we can't verify a licence number against a public register, we still list the number as stated by the business but note that it hasn't been independently confirmed.
How we capture Google ratings
We capture each installer's Google rating and review count on a stated date rather than updating it live, since ratings move over time. Figures on this site were captured on 15 September 2026. In every other Sydney region the number one spot goes to the first organic Google Maps listing for that region that is not already ranked first elsewhere on this site, so no business holds the top position in more than one region.
